PvP Minesweeper โ Real-Time Matchmaking

PvP Minesweeper โ Real-Time Competitive Play
PvP mode puts you into a live 1v1 Minesweeper match against a randomly matched opponent. Both players receive the same board, start simultaneously on first click, and race to clear as many tiles as possible before time runs out. Your score is compared against your opponent's in real time โ the higher score wins the round.
Unlike Duel mode (which uses a private link to challenge a specific friend), PvP uses automatic matchmaking: click Standard or Quick and you'll be paired with another player waiting in the queue. No link to share, no waiting room to manage โ just a match.
How Matchmaking Works
When you open the PvP lobby, you're assigned a player ID and placed in a matchmaking queue. As soon as another player enters the same queue, a game room is created automatically and both players are connected. The board is revealed and the clock starts on your first click.
Standard mode uses the full 9ร9 Beginner board (10 mines). Quick mode (โก) uses a smaller board for faster rounds โ ideal when you want a faster pace or are warming up.
vs Bot is available from the tab bar above if no live opponent is available. The bot plays at Medium difficulty by default; harder difficulties are available from the bot lobby.
How Scoring Works
Your score is calculated in two parts:
- 5 points per tile revealed. Every safe cell you uncover earns 5 points. Chord-clicking through multiple cells at once earns points for each cell revealed.
- Time bonus:
(300 โ secondsFromStart) ร percentRevealed, minimum 0. Finish quickly with a high percentage cleared and the time bonus can rival the tile score. The bonus decays to 0 after 300 seconds.
The player with the higher total score wins. If both players clear the board completely, the faster time is the tiebreaker. Hitting a mine doesn't end the game โ it costs you no direct points, but the explosion animation briefly interrupts your board, and you lose the tiles you were about to chord through.
Rankings and Leaderboard
Competitive PvP tracks win/loss records and an ELO-style rating across all your matches. Your rating rises when you beat higher-rated opponents and falls when you lose to lower-rated ones. The leaderboard ranks players by rating.
View the full leaderboard at pvp/leaderboard and the ELO rankings at pvp/rankings. Your personal record appears on your profile page once you've played at least one rated match.
Strategy for Competitive PvP
- Open fast, chord faster. The time bonus rewards both speed and coverage. Start with a center click to maximize the opening cascade, then chord through all completed constraints immediately.
- Don't over-flag. Right-clicking takes time. In PvP, many top players skip flagging entirely and rely on memory, using the spare clicks on more tile reveals instead.
- Watch your opponent's score. If you're trailing, play more aggressively โ take risky 50/50 guesses to catch up. If you're ahead, slow down and play safely to preserve your lead.
- Practice in solo first. PvP uses the same board mechanics as Beginner. If your solo Beginner time is above 60 seconds, practice there first โ competitive PvP rewards consistent sub-30s board clearing.
- Quick mode for warm-ups. The smaller Quick board completes in 10โ20 seconds. Use it to get in rhythm before playing rated Standard rounds.
